Home Building Reminders
Building Reminders
As we move from "construction phase" to fully using our new facilities, a few reminders are worth noting:
-
Scheduling
Holy Redeemer is blessed to have many activities and opportunities for ministry and fellowship—both
in our building and in the community. These include long and short term opportunities, day and evening
opportunities, as well as congregational and community opportunities. With the expansion of our
facilities we anticipate being able to host additional events. In order to ensure smooth running
activities, however, proper planning and communication are a necessity.
When scheduling events for your committee or group, it is vitally important that you first check
the church master calendar, to see if there are any conflicts. The office has a long term calendar
on which planned events are written. Often, more than one group can have an event going on at the same
time, but it is important that those responsible for planning ensure that other leaders are notified
and aware of the situation. If there is more than one opportunity at a given time, people will be able
to choose what they wish to participate in, but leaders being informed as to what others are doing is
a necessary part of this process. It is also important that the staff be well aware of any plans, so
that we can answer questions if they arise, and assist in scheduling as necessary. Last minute plans
are difficult for all concerned.
As we look forward to expanded opportunities to serve God and our community, open, timely communication
and well-planned events are the key to providing stress-free blessings to all participants.
-
Closing the Building
Our new building expansion means there are additional lights to turn off and additional doors and windows to
close when leaving. If you are the last person leaving the building, please be sure all lights are off
(except for the security lights in the entryway, which are always on), and that the doors to the classrooms,
youth room, offices, workroom, kitchen, fellowship space, sacristy and hallways, etc. are closed, as well as
all windows. It is also always good to check to make sure the coffee pot burners are turned off, as well.
If you need instruction on how to lock or unlock the entryway doors from the inside, please speak to Pastor
Brenda. A reminder about these "closing the building" tasks will be posted by the front doors and in the
education rooms/hallway.
-
Nave Acoustics
You may have noticed that our nave (worship space) is now very "live." That is, the acoustics make it
such that every noise—every conversation, every bout of fussing, every musical offering, every "hard,"
noisy toy (toy cars, etc.) sound, every footstep—is amplified. This acoustical reality is good with
regard to hearing the words or musical offerings of those participating in worship, but can be distracting
when other sounds interfere with the service.
Please keep this in mind when gathering for worship, as well as during the service itself. Conversations
are best kept for before and after worship, and our newly expanded narthex provides plenty of room for this.
We ask that you consider bringing only "soft" toys for worship, such as books or dolls. If a child has a
bout of sustained chatter or crying, we urge you to make use of our new cry room, conveniently located near
the offices. Whether it is during a Sunday service when youth are serving as attendants in the cry room or
a Saturday service, this room is a good place to "re-group" for a few minutes if necessary. Feel free to
get up and leave and return when your child has been comforted!
-
Severe Weather Shelter
Please know that in the event of severe weather, the fellowship space now provides an enclosed area to
gather. Should this type of situation arise during worship, Sunday School, meetings, etc., we will proceed
to this area.
-
Mom Won't Do Your Dishes
If you use a cup, glass, plate, etc. in the kitchen, please be sure to wash your dishes and put
them away. Also, if you are the last person to use and turn off the coffee pot, please empty out any
remaining coffee from the pot and discard the filter. Please do not leave these things for someone else to
take care of!
